Alright, I must be falling off my rocker, but this is absolutely unbelievable. To be misidentified once as a homicidal shooter was hell. To be labeled again within three days? That is UNACCEPTABLE. CTV will have you to believe that Asians with guns ALL LOOK SAME. You can clearly see my picture being identified as the shooter TWICE @ 0:41 and 0:20 seconds remaining. No apology or notice of clarification has been issued by this network.

As evidenced by the interview below, I think we know the stance on firearms by this network. So which is it? Is this them filling the air with more "terrifying images"? Or do they think that Asians ALL LOOK SAME? Either way, I don't think I'll like the answer.

Like the media doesn't even care. They just find some pics of an asian dude holding guns and throw in on the news...lol

Wait a second............didn't everyone on this website do the same thing, and start blaming Chiang??

If you sue the media, I think you should sue all the people who slandered you on your discussion board when they thought you were the killer...

Fucking SIGNED. Defamation, slander, AND libel all together - they work with printed word (visible on screen) as well as the spoken word, and the sheer rampant destruction of your character.

I for one, as soon as I can, would be happy to donate to a defense fund. The press needs to be reminded to CHECK SOURCES and verify what they put on before they go forward with things that might ruin someone's life, permanently. Didn't these idiots learn when Dan Rather ended up losing his career over the falsified memos? Guess not, because Geraldo sure jumped all over you, that very day, JUST so he could scoop all the other networks and get the word out first.

Dumbass never bothered to find out whether or not the word was LEGIT or not.

Find that ABC guy who actually checked up on you, let him know what's going on, and dangle the word exclusive to him. He'd probably love to poke at the other networks and make them look stupid, and you might just get your name cleared in the press. Worth a shot.

Sorry you're going through all this, man, but I'm willing to help as I can. BS is BS and needs to get shoveled, fast.

even if you shared a physical resemblance (which you don't), anyone who isn't completely visually impaired could tell that the photos came from different sources.

Lawsuit. It is not for the sake of gains, but I think, at this time it is the only way to protect your reputation. Beside, it is not an honest mistake, but this is just not good journalism. Sue them. Maybe you can give some of it to some charity.

I watched the CTV interview (the one posted in the previous post) since I didn't watch that live. Watching that was painful. I think the questions the journalist asked were unrelated to story and were a tad intrusive. I'm appalled at how she conducted the interview.

i agree with rubychai. based off the interview, it seemed like the journalist was set on the idea that YOU are the shooter and i found her attitude to be annoying and in some ways...rude. anyway, i can't believe that even after interviewing you CTV still shows your pictures as the shooter...uhh you definitely share no physical resemblance to him. hahah this is completely unrelated and insignificant, but you are FAR better looking than him.

Autism?

I'm sure this young man had a lot of issues, but I wonder if he also had some form of autism? People are saying he was antisocial and non-communicative his whole life. (Not you wanusmaximus! the shooter).

Not to be a broken record, but FOX News and CTV have just lost whatever reputation they mangaged to salvage over the years within a few days. I think you should sue. Have CNN do a cover story on it, and that'd be hilarious.

Sue for slander...

This kind of thing is happening more and more because the media is looking to get the ratings and get the information out there faster than the other networks.
If you sue CTV you can get a huge cash compensation. It also is almost your responsability to clear your name and any affiliation with this horrible act. While the story of the mixup and accusations is not the main issue here it is a big issue. More noise needs to be made to help get journalism back on the right track.
A man was wrongly accused (much worse than in your case but none the less) for the olympic bombing (http://www.pbs.org/newshour/bb/sports/jewell_10-28.html)--best source i could find without really searching.

You NEED to take a stand and take LEGAL action.

I've never been in your situation to this magnitude, and I know no one else really has (Except maybe some Saddam Hussein impersonators?), so I'm sure my advice would fall really short of what would really be best, but I think you should definitely sue. Slander, libel and etc, just as the others have said. It's totally ridiculous and unnecessary on their part, and I hope all turns well for you. I also hope you just don't have to move elsewhere to escape the bullshit, that would be a little too much.

What happened to you is what I fear.

Had I gone to Virginia Tech, I too would have "fit the description". The media needs to stop reporting on assumptions and focus on verified facts. I applaud your handling of the situation.

You have a right to not only sue CTV but NBC and probably every other network who showed your picture wrongfully after they learned the fact that you weren't the gunman. Get a lawyer and demand a public apology, maybe something on the side for yourself aswell ;P.
